Percentage of Body Water?

DYK?

  • Roughly 60% of your total body weight is water. The range for most individuals is 45-70%.
  • Muscle mass has a higher percentage of body water than body fat.  Muscle is around 74% water weight whereas, body fat is roughly 20-30% water.
  • Therefore, the more muscle you have the more body water you have and require for exercise and competition.
  • During exercise in the heat, the amount of water lost in sweat may exceed 1 to 2 liters (33-66 oz.) per hour .
  • Potassium, sodium and chloride are essential electrolytes needed in the diet.  One cup of milk has more than 300 mg of potassium whereas one cup of a popular sports drink has 30mg. (10x more potasium in the milk)
